1. "Mrs. Sarah Gregg Dead," Republican-Times, 27 May 1897. The obituary of Sarah Gregg contained information on her early life but also included references to her contributions to the Civil War effort as a nurse and to the diary she kept.
2. "Mrs. Sarah Gregg" in Brief Biographies of the Figurines on Display in the Illinois State Historical Library, ed. Georgia L. Osborne and Emma B. Scott (Springfield: State of Illinois, 1932), 72. The figurines are a part of the Illinois State Historical collection because they represent the work of the artisan, Mina Schmidt, not because they represent historical women of Illinois. Other women who contributed to the Civil War effort were included in the collection and in the accompanying biographical sketches.
