27. Compounds 5, 8, and 12 formed stable solvates with water, DMF, and DMSO and were difficult to obtain in the free form. Attempts to generate accurate C, H, N analyses failed, perhaps because of this solvation phenomenon.
28. Lowering the pH to 4 or below causes relatively rapid decarboxylation and generates a mixture of mono- and didecarboxylated products.
