BMJ 1995, 310: 441-445. A randomized trial showing significant benefit from a brief problem-solving intervention delivered in primary care. Amitriptyline treatment yielded outcomes not significantly different from placebo, but a sufficient sample size may have shown significant differences for that comparison as well. The study sample included middle-aged, working-class patients of British general practitioners.
