Course and recurrence of postnatal depression: Evidence for the specificity of the diagnostic concept
-
Cooper PJ, Murray L: Course and recurrence of postnatal depression: evidence for the specificity of the diagnostic concept. Br J Psychiatry 1995, 166:191-195. The authors showed that women with postpartum depression are more likely to have a recurrence of depression in future postpartum periods, whereas women with previous histories of affective illness are more likely to have recurrences of depression outside of the postpartum period.

Childbearing in women with and without a history of affective disorder. II. Electroencephalographic sleep
-
Coble PA, Reynolds CF, Kupfer DJ, Houck PR, Day NL, Giles DE: Childbearing in women with and without a history of affective disorder. II. Electroencephalographic sleep. Compr Psychiatry 1994, 35:215-224. The authors showed that women with a history of affective illness have more sleep disturbances, particularly shortened rapid eye-movement latency, during late gestation and for up to 8 months postpartum compared with women without such histories. These findings support rapid eye-movement latency as a vulnerability marker for depressive illness.
