Of 58 patients undergoing acetabular reconstruction and joint replacement for metastatic periacetabular fractures, 37 of 51 patients who survived longer than 6 months postoperatively described their residual pain as minimal or nonexistent. Thirty-nine of the 51 patients were ambulatory and required either no walking aids (20) or a single cane (19) 6 months after the operation. There were no deep wound infections and only one nonfatal pulmonary embolism in the 58 cases.
