Nature Med 1995, 1:1148-1154. This is the first report on ex-vivo gene therapy in five patients with familial hypercholesterolemia. Metabolic responses were quite variable. This study indicates that limited numbers of retrovirus-transduced hepatocytes were engrafted without significant morbidity.
