CDKN2 explains part of the clinical phenotype in Dutch familial atypical multiple-mole melanoma (FAMMM) syndrome families
-
Gruis NA, Sandkuijl LA, van der Velden PA, Bergman W, Frants RR: CDKN2 explains part of the clinical phenotype in Dutch familial atypical multiple-mole melanoma (FAMMM) syndrome families. Melanoma Res 1995, 5:169-177. This report found several individuals within the Dutch melanoma kindreds that had all the hallmarks of the familial atypical multiple-mole melanoma syndrome yet were not mutant haplotype carriers, thus indicating that genes other than CDKN2 are involved in predisposition to multiple atypical moles (dysplastic nevus syndrome).

-
Battistutta D, Palmer JM, Walters MK, Walker GJ, Nancarrow DJ, Hayward NK: Incidence of familial melanoma and MLM2 gene. Lancet 1994, 344:1607-1608. This study presents data to support an increasing phenotypic penetrance of CDKN2 mutations in familial melanoma cases from more recent birth cohorts. These findings are consistent with an increase in sunlight exposure due to lifestyle changes.
