Shapiro DA, Rees A, Barkham M, Hardy G, Reynolds S, Startup M: Effects of treatment duration and severity of depression on the maintainance of gains after cognitive-behavioural and psychodynamic-interpersonal psychotherapy. J Consult Clin Psychol 1995, 63:378-387. More findings from this major trial. Post-therapy gain was demonstrated which was enhanced with 16 rather than six sessions of psychodynamic-interpersonal therapy. Comorbidity of Cluster C personality disorder adversely affected outcome.

Response of depressed adolescents to cognitive-behavioral treatment: Do differences in initial severity clarify the comparison of treatments?
-
Rohde P, Lewinsohn P, Seeley JR: Response of depressed adolescents to cognitive-behavioral treatment: do differences in initial severity clarify the comparison of treatments? J Consul Clin Psychol 1994, 62:851-854. A well constructed randomized trial that highlights the importance of replication which is a feature of this study. Results were not consistent between samples. Better outcome was not predicted by greater severity of depression, nor was there any difference in outcome between the active treatments.
