Transplantation 1995, 59:460-466. This newly approved drug (mycophenolate mofeteil) has activity in this model of chronic rejection and will, no doubt, be tested for activity in patients.

J Immun 1994, 153:5336-5346. A startling and provocative demonstration of a novel approach to interference with ICAM-1 in acute graft rejection. The prolongation was modest (but statistically significant); with additional anti-LFA-1 mAb indefinite graft survival occurred.
30. Schowengerdt KO, Zhu JY, Stepkowski SM, Tu Y, Entman ML, Ballantyne CM: Cardiac allograft survival in mice deficient in intercellular adhesion molecule-1. Circulation 1995, 92:82-87. A complete lack of ICAM-1 (in the graft or host) achieved by genetic knock-out techniques did not prevent the rejection of mouse cardiac grafts. These data contrast with previous studies with mAb to ICAM-1 and the authors speculate on the reasons. These findings are consistent with other studies that demonstrate the considerable dependence on LFA-1 inhibition.

Pathol Int 1995, 45:196-201. A surprising observation of strain specificity of an adverse effect of anti-ICAM-1 mAb; the effect is Fc dependent and may relate to Fc receptor polymorphism. The relevance to other species is unknown, but should be determined.
