1. Although I refer to 'democratization' and the 'consolidation of democracy', I consider the political systems which emerged after military rule have been restricted forms of liberal democracy. The political process in Chile was determined to a significant degree by the 'binding laws' laid down by the military before handing over to civilian rule and by the 1980 Constitution.

21. Maria Antonieta Saa was the representative from the women's movement to the Asamblea de la Civilidad. In 1990, she was appointed mayor of Conchalí (Metropolitan Region) and in 1994 was elected Deputy to parliament for the Partido por la Democracia (PPD).
