Measurement by this technique was complicated by the difficulty of "drying" the sample so the slowly evaporating included benzene would remain with the sample while benzene on the exterior of the channels would be excluded from the initial weight. It was decided that a lower bound could be obtained by measuring the sample after the powder itself appeared dry.
