Cell 1995, 80:353-361. The NF-IL6 knockout mice demonstrates that NF-IL6 is essential for bactericidal and tumoricidal activities by macrophages. This study also shows that NF-IL6 is not essential for several cytokines except for G-CSF, the expression of which has been considered to be mediated by NF-IL6.
