The presence of insulin resistance in NIDDM patients was assessed and then 24-h blood-pressure monitoring was used to evaluate the relationship between microalbuminuria and insulin resistance.

Hypertension 1995, 26:789-795. The presence of insulin resistance was correlated with various renal hemodynamic changes. The investigators found that those individuals with insulin resistance hyperfilter, and have other abnormalities in renal function despite normal creatinine values.

Kidney Int 1995, 48:1907-1911. This study presents the results of a large national trial in the UK that evaluates ACE gene polymorphisms in NIDDM patients. An association was found between the ACE gene and microalbuminuria in NIDDM subjects.
