Liposomal amphotericin B prevents invasive fungal infections in liver transplant recipients - A randomized, placebo-controlled study
-
Tollemar J, Hockerstedt K, Ericzon BG, Jalanko H, Ringden O: • Liposomal amphotericin B prevents invasive fungal infections in liver transplant recipients - a randomized, placebo-controlled study. Transplantation 1995, 59:45-50. In this study liposomal amphotericin B was effective as prophylaxis against invasive candidiasis although the number of infections caused by Aspergillus spp. was insufficient for assessment of the efficacy against aspergillosis.

The safety and efficacy of amphotericin B colloidal dispersion in the treatment of invasive mycoses
-
Oppenheim BA, Herbrecht R, Kusne S: The safety and efficacy of • amphotericin B colloidal dispersion in the treatment of invasive mycoses. Clin Infect Dis 1995, 21:1145-1153. This study showed that the newer amphotericin B preparations may be preferable drugs for the treatment of invasive fungal infections requiring amphotericin B in transplant recipients. The remarkably safe nephrotoxicity profile of these preparations is a highly desirable feature because renal failure has been shown to be an independent marker for increased mortality in liver transplant recipients.

Bangsborg JM, Uldum S, Jensen JS, Bruun BG: Nosocomial • legionellosis in three heart-lung transplant patients: case reports and environmental observations. Eur J Clin Microbiol Infect Dis 1995. 14:99-104. This study reports on two heart transplant patients and one double-lung transplant patient who contracted L. pneumophila postoperatively. The source of the organism may have been the ice machine. Oral roxithromycin proved effective.
