Serruys PW, Herrman JPR, Simon R, Rutsch W, Bode C, Laarman GJ, et al.: A comparison of hirudin with heparin in the prevention of restenosis after coronary angioplasty. N Engl J Med 1995, 333:757-763. The use of hirudin was evaluated in 1154 patients with unstable angina undergoing angioplasty. Hirudin therapy was found to result in a reduction in acute ischemic events; however, this benefit did not persist during a 7-month follow-up period.
