Chem. 1974, 39, 1612.) gave the crude alcohol, which was redissolved in dichloromethane and treated directly with tert-butyldiphenylsilyl chloride, triethylamine, and 4-(dimethylamino)pyridine. After aqueous workup, the crude product was further treated with chlorotrimethylsilane in order to facilitate the removal from the target molecule of traces of tert-butyldiphenylsilanol, which had formed during the silylation step.
