Findings suggest that osteoporosis in RA is generalized and may be related to the loss of mobility or muscle mass associated with the disease.

J Bone Miner Res 1995, 10:384-393. A cross-sectional study of the determinants of BMD of 115 white women aged 18 years. Body weight, trunk muscle strength, aerobic fitness, and activity level were significant predictors of BMD in this group. Findings suggest that the overall mechanical load applied to the skeleton contributes to peak levels of BMD attained.
