    • This shift is well accounted for without phonon confinement effect. The reason is probably that a classical linear chain model does not provide an accurate picture of the phonons in ultra-thin systems ( <4-5 ML), and that full macroscopic calculations should take into account both mechanical and electrostatic boundary conditions.
