    • Originally (see ref. 1) we reported that the phosphatase inhibition activity of DTX-4 was about 50-fold less than that of okadaic acid. Later, we discovered that some hydrolysis to produce okadaic acid had occurred with that sample. Using a fresh sample of DTX-4 the phosphatase activity was found to be weaker by almost an order of magnitude (T. Hu, F. van Dolah and J.L.C. Wright, unpublished results).

Substantial amounts of okadaic acid were detected after 30 minutes reaction, together with disappearance of the starting material, indicating rapid hydrolysis of DTX-5b to okadaic acid.
