    • Note that in statistical physics (in particular, in the theory of thermodynamic phase transitions) the term “mean-field” is customarily employed to describe the average particle-particle or spin-spin interaction when particles or spins are distributed at random. Accordingly, the mean-field approximation usually implies a non-zero interaction between particles or spins. In chemical kinetics, however, the term “mean-field” is often used even in the case of non-interacting particles.
