These results suggest that the redundancy of octamer-binding proteins in vivo (Oct-1) can likely compensate for the loss of Oct-2, but that Oct-1 and Oct-2 have different functions, which may be distinguished using different target genes.

    • Regulation of Lymphoid-Specific Ig μ Heavy Chain Gene Enhancer by ETS-Domain Proteins
    • of special interest, Ets proteins co-operate with each other to regulate Ig μ enhancer function. The authors show that two distinct sites within the enhancer are recognized by PU.1 and Ets-1, respectively. Co-expression of the two factors in non-lymphoid cells transactivated a It enhancer fragment containing the two Ets binding sites and F boxes. This is the first evidence of Ets-1 function in B cells.

    • Interleukin-7 Induces N-myc and C-myc Expression in Normal Prescursor B Lymphocytes
    • of special interest, N-myc is regulated in pre-B cells by the lymphokine IL-7. IL-7 stimulated both N-myc and c-myc transcription in freshly isolated pre-B cells, but only c-myc was stimulated during mitogen-induced proliferation in more mature B cells. N-myc induction results from release of RNA polymerase from an attenuation block. N-myc is constitutively expressed only in transformed B cells with a pre-B cell phenotype.
