    • 11 of drawn poly(3‐alkylthiophene) films, cast from good solvents, have been shown that the macromolecules are arranged in a layered structure, within an orthorhombic unit cell. The planar thipnene rings and alkyl side chains lie parallel to the acplane of the unit cell. The dimensions of the b‐ and c‐axes are both invariant with side‐chain length. The a‐axis dimension, by contrast, increases in a nearly linear fashion with increasing side‐chain length up to approximately 12 carbon atoms. As the side‐chain length increases beyond ca. 12 carbon atoms, side‐chain interdigitation and crystallization occurs and deviation from the linear dependance is observed.
