Radixin is a Novel Member of the Band 4.1 Family
-
of special interest, The primary structure of radixin is shown to contain the domain conserved in the members of band 4.1 family. This paper leads us to conclude that the molecular organization of the undercoat of the adherens junction is somewhat similar to that of erythrocyte membranes.

A gene family consisting of ezrin, radixin and moesin. Its specific localization at actin filament/plasma membrane association sites.
-
of special interest, in press, This paper is the first demonstration of the existence of the ERM family by cDNA cloning, western blotting and in vitro translation. Three members of the ERM family widely co-express in various types of cells. Their distribution points to the important role of the ERM family in the association of actin filaments and plasma membranes in general.

A 220-kD Undercoat-constitutive Protein: Its Specific Localization at Cadherin-based Cell-Cell Adhesion Sites
-
of outstanding interest, This paper provides an important clue in understanding the molecular mechanism behind making cadherin molecules at cell adhesion sites insoluble. The intriguing possibility is raised that the ankyrin-spectrin system plays a pivotal role in cadherin insolubilization.

The 102kD Cadherin-associated Protein: Similarity to Vinculin and Posttranscriptional Regulation of Expression
-
of outstanding interest, This is the first report of the nucleotide sequence of α-catenin, α-Catenin was purified from isolated adherens junctions, and pAb was raised against the purified α-catenin. Using this pAb as a probe, α-catenin cDNA was successfully isolated and sequenced.

The Uvomorulin-anchorage Protein α Catenin is a Vinculin Homologue
-
of outstanding interest, A different method of analyzing the α-catenin structure gives the same results as [16⊎⊎]. α-Catenin was immunoprecipitated together with uvomorulin (E-cadherin) using anti-uvomorulin antibody from mouse F9 cells, and amino acid sequence analysis of the purified α-catenin was performed. Anti serum against α-catenin was produced by using a synthetic peptide, and this antiserum was used for the screening of α-catenin cDNA.

Specific proto-oncogenic tyrosine kinases of src family are enriched in cell-to-cell adherens junctions where the level of tyrosine phosphorylation is elevated
-
of outstanding interest, Using the isolated adherens junction, it has been clearly shown that c-src and c-yes kinases are highly concentrated in the undercoat of the adherens junction, and that the adherens junction is the precise site where the level of tyrosine phosphorylation is remarkably elevated. These results explain how src-like oncogenes transform cells.
