    • A typical experimental procedure is as follows: 1-(2, 6-Dimethoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-2-buten-1-ol (1.11g, 5.00 mM) was dissolved in 5 mL of pyridine and 5 mL of dicloromethane and cooled to 0°. Phosphorus oxychloride (0.56mL, 6.0mM) was added via syringe over 15 sec. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to RT and stir overnight. Work-up by quenching with aqueous sodium bicarbonate and extraction with ether gave, after filtration through silica gel, 0.80g (80%) of trans-1-(2, 6-dimethoxyphenyl)-3-methyl-1, 3-butadiene.
