- Bromodiene 6 was prepared in three steps from 1,1-dibromo-2,2,3,3-tetramethylcyclopropane. Thermally induced dehydrohalogenative ring opening yields 3-bromo-2,4-dimethyl-1,3-pentadiene (84%). Metalation (t-buLi, −78°C) followed by an ethylene oxide quench gave a homoallylic alcohol (55%) which was converted to bromide 6 by tosylation followed by refluxing in acetone/NaBr (62%).
