    • The mixer frequency f1 is completely arbitrary, and when it is outside the occupied spectrum, one is operating at an intermediate frequency. When we refer to fo = f1, we mean an intermediate frequency is not being used, and the signal is fully translated to baseband
    • We must keep in mind that fo is constrained to be within the occupied spectrum of s(t), and for most cases of interest also near the (arithmetic) center of the occupied spectrum.
