The following recent findings are pertinent to our observations and discussion. Enkephalin-like immunoreactivity has recently been described in adrenal medullary tumours on the basis of radioimmunoassay (Sullivan,Bloom &Polak, 1978).In relation to the nature of the immunoreactive reactive material, it is noteworthy that an enkephalin-like immunoreactive substance resistant to enzymatic break-down has recently been found in the cerebrospinal fluid (Sarne,Azov &Weissman, 1978).Concerning the question whether enkephalin-like material, if secreted from the adrenal gland, can have any endocrine function, it is relevant that intra-arterially infused met-enkephalin can in fact exert peripheral effects (Konturek,Pawlik,Walus,Coy &Schally, 1978) and that enkephalin-like peptide(s) resistant to enzymatic break-down seem to exist (Srane et al, 1978).
