    • To carry out the estimation of the water layer thickness, we take into account the objective magnification and the diameter of the spatial filter at the conjugate plane. With a x50 objective and 200 μm diam, this leads to a thickness of 2 μm probed at the sample by the detection. In the present case, the band intensity was 100 counts per second for the bulk corresponding to the 2 μm probed. Considering a detection limit of 0.1 count/ second, this fixes the minimum detectable water thickness to 20 Å.
