    • Arrhenius, Svante August (1859-1927) pioneered the concepts of ionic solutions, molecular bonds, reaction rates, and activation energies, and ultimately evolved his reaction rate law of the form k = A exp(-E/RT) wherein E, R, and T are activation energy, universal gas constant, and absolute temperature. Arrhenius received a PhD from University of Uppsalla in 1884 and the Nobel Prize in chemistry in 1903.
