    • The genetic algorithm used for FROG reconstruction typically uses a starting population of 30 chromosomes, each of which represent the electric field and its phase, and it then iterates and converges to a retrieved trace. (The same solutions, with negligible differences, are obtained for multiple runs.) The speed of the genetic algorithm is slower than the generalized projection algorithm operating on the same-sized grid. For a detailed description of the FROG genetic algorithm, please refer to J.W.
