56. In this determination, the retention times of 3b and an impurity (0.4%) were 10.4 and 6.3 min, respectively. The retention time of retinol determined immediately afterward under the same conditions was 8.8 min; therefore, retinol was not present in determinable amounts in 3b.
57. The unidentified components might be products of further dehydrogenation.
