McCabe, Bernard Kreissman, JAI Press, Greenwich, CT, Of the six types of power defined by Moxley, McCargar found that functional role power was the most effective when used by library directors at Association of Research Libraries (ARL) institutions. Influence activities for this power type focus on keeping central administrators supplied with information about the library and relating goals and objectives of the library to those of the institution. Two other power types found to be effective are person power (e.g., interpersonal-relation skills) and task power (e.g., expertise in financial management and budget development). In the area of power analysis, the results of McCargar's quantitative research are consistent with the findings of this qualitative study.
