The first part is the system marginal price (SMP) which is equal to the offer price of the marginal genset needed to meet demand. The second part is a capacity-related payment which is designed to reflect the probability of available capacity being insufficient to meet demand. It is calculated by the formula LOLP × (VOLL − SMP) where LOLP is the loss of load probability and VOLL is the value of lost load.
