1. Raster images are made up of a grid (or raster) of pixels. Such images are typically produced by scanners or digital cameras. Other maps and cartographic data files on the Internet are in vector format. They are usually produced by Geographic Information Systems (CIS) and consist of mathematically defined lines and curves.
