We have examined a (1×1) structure (not shown but similar to the bottom panel of Fig. 5). It is stable with a heat of adsorption similar to that of the (2×1) structure so that these structures could coexist. However, the (1×1) structure might not arise because of steric considerations during the formation of the 2D solid phase. We are currently investigating this point.
