    • The prediction of Smith and Deen raises the question why in our experiments - even at low ionic strength - a sufficient number of particles enter the glass grain to allow FRAP measurements. The surface of a porous glass grain is a cross section ,a medium of isotropically oriented cylindes (see Ref. 14). A particle approaching the glass surface thus experiences a very polydisperse distribution of cross sections of pores and may find an entrance where it is able to penetrate the medium.
