Here, the status of the integrability of the system is somewhat unusual. The original system is equivalent to a NLS equation with a periodic z-dependent dispersion and this is not integrable. On the other hand, the coupled system defined on (Formula presented) by itself appears to be integrable; conservation laws are easily written down as linear combinations of two independent NLS conservation laws. However, when viewed in terms of the original variables, these are not local but rather bilocal as (Formula presented) depends formally on z and (Formula presented) Clearly, the integrability aspect requires further clarification
