    • In the cathodic reduction of aroyl chlorides, it has been reported that aroyl free radicals are formed through the ejection of chloride ion from the radical anions that initially form, and that these free radicals then couple. The resulting diaroyl intermediate is immediately reduced to an ene diol because it has a lower reduction potential than the aroyl chloride. See: Guirado, A.; Manzanera, C.; Velasco, M. D. J. Org. Chem. 1982, 42, 142.
