PRISM III was developed using the data on 11,165 patients from 32 pediatric units in the United States. The ability of PRISM III to predict mortality is excellent, and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve increased by 3.9% in relation to the predecessor model. The very sophisticated and exhaustive methodology followed for the development of PRISM III is worth reading.
