For highly flexible molecules, it measures the temporal correlations of the longest instantaneous axis of the chain or of the end-to-end vector. In practice, the "rotation" of the longest instantaneous axis will generally be accomplished by a pseudorotational process involving elaborate conformational adjustments. For fully collapsed long chains, we are suggesting that a genuine stiff-molecule rotational mechanism may be significant or even dominant.
