    • On average, the top 10 percent of hospitals in these ten cities account for 53 percent of the reported cost of bad debt and charity care. They also are larger than average, accounting for 26 percent of total hospital expenses. The concentration bad debt and charity care as a percentage of expenses varies differently across these ten cities.
