    • Heat pumps are much more efficient than conventional systems based on their "coefficient of performance" (COP) an engineering term. COP is the ratio of heat delivered by the heat pump (or other system) to the electricity supplied to the compressor. Thus, the higher the number, the more efficient the system. Heat pumps in this application have a COP of almost five, while a conventional system has a COP of less than 1.
