We have also tried to implement the Monte Carlo algorithm using other strategies, e.g., based on the Coulomb gas representation of Ref. 12 or using spin-coherent state path-integral representations of the magnetic impurity [see, e.g., A. Auerbach, Interacting Electrons and Quantum Magnetism (Springer, New York, 1994)]. These other approaches are all plagued by a very significant sign problem and have therefore been abandoned.
