The controversy in interpreting the infrared data of YBCO has arisen from two divergent approaches: In the so-called one-component approach, the feature is interpreted as having an essential connection with the superconducting gap, while in the two-component approach, the feature is identified as the edge of the mid-infrared band and is not associated with the superconductivity because it does not disappear in the normal state in some samples.
