    • In Ref. 7 it has been shown that this finding is attributable to the coverage dependence of the correlation factor f. In the stability range of the ordered lattice gas phase, tracer diffusion proceeds via defects of the c(2×2) structure (Ref. 7), i.e., the c(2×2) ordering must be broken by diffusing adatoms. However, the measured small values of the correlation factor imply that defects formed by adatoms jumping out of stable c(2×2) coordination sites are immediately annihilated by backward jumps (Ref. 4).
