55. In the case of 4a another method of purification was possible. After stirring overnight, silica gel (10 g) was added to the solution in small portions. The mixture was then stirred for 30 min and filtered. The solvent was removed in vacuo. Recrystallization of the remaining solid from ethyl acetate/hexane gave 20.0 g (63 mmol, 63%) of a yellow solid.
