For ease of notation, we will call the sideband for n the nth sideband rather than the 2nth sideband. Odd sidebands in asymmetric QW structures have been observed by C. Phillips, M. Y. Su, M. S. Sherwin, J. Ko, and L. Coldren, Appl. Phys. Lett. 75, 2728 (1999). Note that asymmetry can be induced effectively by including a dc component on top of the modulation field, and may provide improved THz sideband conversion due to the lower-order nature of the leading relevant optical nonlinearity.
