Although the authors of this paper originally proposed cis/trans designation of the geometrical isomers of naphthylcarbenes, as pointed out by Roth and Platz such designation (as well as syn/anti nomenclature) leaves some field for ambiguity when unequivocal relation of structure and name is desired.
