36. The molecular identity of oxygen-containing species forming on Pt surface at potentials below ca. 1.2 V is uncertain. Water dissociation on Pt leading to the formation of adsorbed hydroxyl or other oxygenated species is a deceptively complicated reaction and is still only qualitatively understood despite extensive research.
