    • In preliminary studies by X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) in photoyield mode we observed a stronger core exciton peak at the Cu 3 d5/2 edge of La2CuO4. We at present attribute this difference to the greater surface sensitivity of XAS in photoyield mode
